It looks like they were busy enough to follow the train up with a 'relief' Unit, presumably to mop up any passengers left behind who really needed to get to their destination.

The standard of media reporting hasn't been very good. The Guardian talked of train services being hauled by "a modern Tornado steam engine" and said that there was "no guarantee any customer will be able to board Tornado without a reservation" I wonder what the footplate crew think of this! The Telegraph was little better saying that Tornado "will shunt hundreds of enthusiasts along the railway" (my highlighting). It also said that the services were "to celebrate the reopening of the line" which, of cruse, isn't the case either.

Interesting to read of several journos referring to THE Tornado. As far as individual steam locos are concerned, the use of the definite article has previously been restricted to Rocket, Mallard and Flying Scotsman.

It would be interesting to know if there were any people on board the Tornado-hauled trains who were just regular passengers going from A to B

If anything was guaranteed to keep me from reading the Mail the comments in this news item are it.

....and Auntie reported that the loco had been "built in Doncaster"! However, all this coverage is splendid news for the movement as a whole so we mustn't be too harsh!

The mainstream media always make mistakes reporting anything to do with railways. The only people who enjoy taking it to bits and pointing the finger are railway enthusiasts on forums like this! Makes me smile.

Indeed, and it gives us enthusiasts the opportunity to reinforce our stereotype by being all nerdy and pedantic correcting all the media reporting. ;-)

Well worth the round trip of 318 miles to hear the fantastic sound of Tornado as it digs in on the long straight out of Horton ! The sun was difficult, but the audio made up for that ! Enjoy :)

Apparently "The Tornado" is an A1 Peppercorn class according to the Today programme on Radio 4 this morning(and no mention of the loco's relative youthfulness either!). Nice to see our hobby getting some positive mentions, but I don't think it is pedantic to expect a better stab at getting the class and name right . The BBC would be pilloried if they reported stories about "The Donald Trump" who was president of the United American States.

Not suggesting anything untoward in the slightest but those 67's are noisy buggers.

As I recall they run at quite high revs to provide ETS, not as bad as the Irish 201's though.

67's sound under power even when idling, More so than a 37 or 47 would.

The explanation has been well provided by Wayne in that the high engine rpm is a consequence of the 67 supplying 'hotel' functions ie electricity.

Steve I was at that Blea Moor location couple of years ago, seen by network rail chaps who said I was trespassing as the stone wall at the top is the boundary wall.(got few holes in it mind)
    Had to leave.

Yes I must admit I wasn't sure if it was or wasn't dodgy as I never intend to be beyond where I should be .Mind you I have seen plenty of videos from the same place before today though !

Think maybe the Genie is out of the bottle and it's half term, tomorrow and Thursday may be interesting. Today seems to have gone ok.

That was a series of shuttles in addition to normal services not a replacement
