    I wonder why it's necessary to leave the depot as early as 0228 when the departure from Carnforth isn't until 0423.

    Because it takes around an hour to get the loco from Carnforth WCRC to Carnforth NR due to the interface procedures operated by both parties.

    It's not possible to get a full rake out of the WCR yard as the NR head shunt only takes I think 6/7 coaches, so double the shunting is involved. At least in the middle of the night there is no other traffic to distract the local signaller......

    No idea, and despite northerns best efforts in cancelling my connection after spending 20+ minutes running class 153s into each other at every greater velocity and them failing to couple properly, I had left Lancaster 10 mins before it passed.

    I see that RTT has a path from Castleton Hopwood Gf to Carnforth Steamtown on the morning of 21 Feb. I also note that Ian Riley (on The Works) states that 45212 is currently on test at Bury. Is this the mainline test for 45212 or something completely different?
