But it does not actually give the numeric identity as far as I can tell and two identical ones were at Carnforth.

It is definitely 95301 - it's number is just visible on the picture (on Weekend Rail's blog) of it being winched off the low loader - 95300 is still at Carnforth to the best of my knowledge...

Cycle ways coming along slowly, there's still as mentioned the big jobs of the missing bridge at rowsley (x3) crossings of farm and main roads, the bit into Matlock and the bit from bake well to rowsley but they prob won't start till next year looking at what the council still have to complete on the long stretch between Darley and Matlock, that sections coming along slowly, the trees have been chopped where needed and the hardcore path is down, the section near warney lane is being built through the field opposite the Woodward and the riverbank to railway bit has been widened with a gabbioned bank,il try and get some pics today if I can,

While on the 1st October marks 50 years since the closure of Rowsley MPD under British Railways, there will be an exhibition at Rowsley marking the event, il,post more details later on. WP_20160909_18_05_34_Pro.jpg

They have only just got the funding for the design work for Bakewell to Rowsley - they have no funding to build it, so it will be some way off yet. As such they are looking at an alternative route, but this has its own problems relating to surface, gradient and crossing the A6 near the Peacock Hotel

Apparently they have got to redesign the crossing near Bridge 36 as such this section is not officially open

Does it mean there is an agreed design for the bridge over the A6, and more importantly, can trains run on it?

I've not seen any plans for a bridge but the local councils have all stared they are not happy about the potential number of folks crossing the a6 on the road so a.bridge is what they want as.do we, not forgetting the discussions on the table were that we would allow access over Cauldwells river viaduct if they would sort out the A6 bridge, again if the cycleway wishes to cross the river then our viaduct has to be used else you have yo build two bridges with all associated problems that follow, I've attached a few of the cycleway at warney lane WP_20160923_18_21_38_Pro.jpg

By the sounds of things - no. The conversation I had with them last week was that they had only just secured the funding to do the design work in order to submit it for Planning Permission; they have no funding to build it. The cost for this section will be costly with three bridges to re-instate, a tunnel to make safe and a rather wealthy landowner to placate

Church Lane which is at the top end of Rowsley and Park Lane which is on the embankment parallel to the A6 (about 1/2 mile north of Rowsley)

The pictures above are very supportive of the railway and cycleway co-existing. It is interesting that the cycleway provision seems much less cramped than alongside the Avon Valley Railway. I am sure that any cycleway bridges installed will be lightweight but hopefully will be positioned such that a railway could be on the adjacent track.

Will pop in sometime. Never had 44 haulage.

They specified a 3 metre wide strip for cycling etc, it's probably the modern standard ,when the Avon valley was built standards may have been different or the formation not wide enough,I do recall a write up in steam railway mag with pictures and it was quite tight with both rail and path alignments.

Update: small one as very busy this weekend.

    Il start with my own department;

    S and t
A very busy two days this weekend, David has repaired the woodwork to the Darley Dale sign and Andrew finished off cutting and fitting the wood on Sunday to replace the north side cable duct cover, on the south side where the pipes under the road side of the the crossing we found the concrete foundations of the gate post and fitted a cable access duct over the top of the plastic pipes, the metal pipe however which has fewer cables in it is blocked somewhere about the dip in the pedestrian pavement, ominous that's where the dip is and probably the reason for the blockage too, so the new south side gate cable has been run in via the other pipe instead, the cables to the gate lamps have been reterminated and texts crewed to the metalwork now with new cable clamps and the old ones removed, ironically when drilling the gate there was a positive pressure inside both gates, probably from the heat of the welding all them years ago when they were made.
    image1.JPG
The location cupboards at Darley have been repainted too by Andrew and I also managed to oil and grease up all the signalling at rowsley in the process of the Monday too.

The next work will be over two days on 17th and 18th, now depending on the weather there are two main jobs to do

    1. Fit the derailer in place of rowsley buffer stop at the gate, there's a sign to go in too.

2.the other day will be more work on Darley gates, this time a good grind down with the power wheel and grinder, coat in rust convertor and red oxide primer, I doubt the gloss white will be applied the same day but that depends on weather etc, the convertor and primer does dry quick.

The gate bracket at church lane which had sprung apart at the weld has now been rewelded too and just requires a repaint.

    Carriage dept.

Tony and Colin were using the good weather to the best advantage and were continuing on the sleeping coach exterior, in the shed Keiron has rewheeled the tank waggon and has started on the waggon woodwork and tank sections.

    Locos

I spotted the HST gang had the 08&09 outside their display shed running.

    Cycle way

The section from church lane to Darley has started, the JCB was widening the path to the new 3 metres required, and Ashbrookes have concreted the metal for work over the precast concrete sections of bridge at the access by Nannygoats now which will allow them to extend their yard for the land lost to the cycle way behind.

    Update from the weekend

    S and t

A derailer and signeage has been fitted.in place of the buffer stop on the loading ramp at the entrance to speed up loading and unloading operations and to remove the need to have to keep lifting out the buffer stop all the time with associated risks etcetera.

The heavy strip down of Darley gates has started, the south gate having had the grinder and wheel going at it all day yesterday, moat of the hidden rust being from where the mesh sits against the steel and traps water, the metal has been coated in convertor primer and red oxide with the rear to do again in oxide thanks to the weather which started to play up half way through, then the white gloss will be tackled before we move onto the other gate

We also managed to chat to Rod about the steelwork for the box base and Andrew and Rod have looked the design drawings to take that forward.

    OddmentS

D8 was out on a midweek ballast working, work progresses on the Ashover light railway groups building internally and I bumped into Kev fitting dmu exhausts and Mr Briddon working on his 03,apart from the rain the weekend were.fun,I also noted the cycleway at church lane h as been tarmacced to 3m wide now and the digger is up towards the end of the station where.the path goes off into the park now working on that bit.

The English Electric 16SVT Mk1 diesel engine for the Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society LMS 10000 arrived at Rowsley today - all 18, 19 or 20 tons of it - depending on which cranage company you believe :)
