They got back to FW around midnight - the police opened the road through the landslip, for the coaches.

The morning Jacobite, with the K1, went to Crianlarich today but there was no afternoon Jacobite, as the loco and stock remain at Mallaig, until the line re-opens. As others have referenced, line expected to re-open Sunday evening/Monday morning.

I suspect No. 45407 will be kept with a warming fire during the layover, but is it safe to imagine this is the first occasion of a locomotive being raised to steam in Mallaig after overnight stabling since the shed closed in 1962?

For those of us who intend on being by the lineside during the last couple of weeks of this year's season, I thought it'd be well to inform that the colours of the scenery are starting to turn slightly earlier this year compared to last. A week or two earlier at most, but Autumn is certainly on it's way!

A quick one across the mist at Glenfinnan this morning:

There are 2 sets of ongoing roadworks firstly opposite the Bothy and secondly on the run to lochailort just after the Causeway car park

Had forgot to mention this, thanks Henry. While I didn't check this morning, two weeks ago Inverlochy Viaduct was certainly until a lot of canvas sheeting for overhaul, just a warning for those looking for the viaduct shot this year to give enough time to check first.

Inverlochy Viaduct? Do you mean the bridge over the river. As for the other road works the Malliag road has had various works on it ever since I've been going there I think but out of season I have never had a problem with hold ups.

Just back from a few days in the West Highlands, so an update for anyone going up for the last two weeks.
Scaffolding and some sheeting is still in place on the river Lochy bridge and the two sets of roadworks mentioned by Henry a few posts back are still ongoing.
Car parking around Glenfinnan was difficult - both the NTS site and the one at the start of the lane to the viaduct were full each time I passed and there were plenty of traffic cones around. Some Tour buses were timing their arrival at the NTS so that the passengers could view the Jacobite on the viaduct adding to the parking problem.
44871 worked on Monday but 45407,just back from the Tweedbank/Fife tour and facing the opposite way round took over on Tues and Wed.Chatting to the support crew,it will continue the rest of this week but will be turned"at some point "by the weekend.
    Hope this helps
    David

Was up and down the road between Mallaig and Glenfinnan this week. The two sets of traffic lights on the bridge works alongside Loch Eilt weren't really a problem...4 mins delay overall at most. 45407 running "right way round" on Friday.

There is a photograph on page 4 of The Times newspaper today of the Jacobite crossing Glenfinnan viaduct. Whether it is the reproduction is hard to tell, but the fourth coach in the set has the appearance of graffiti damage.

One coach did suffer from graffiti morons, I think back in 2012 so it might be an old stock photo.

Looks like it's 44781 (no nameplate), which ran last Monday only. I saw it at Loch Eil, no sign of graffiti, so this was most likely a stockie. Interestingly a different picture of Glenfinnan appears in today's Daily Telegraph.
There is hardly any detail showing on the loco, but again its probably 44871....

The plan is 62005 this week, 44871 next week plus working the SRPS train back on the Saturday. 45407 stays on for a special to Mallaig on the Sunday and then presumably back with the Jacobite ECS on Monday.
The SRPS train will have a diesel banker but before the whingers start, it's unavoidable, a single Black 5 will be well overloaded for getting through Monessie Gorge and the long slog up to Corrour and Glen Douglas.

As far as I'm aware, the ECS move is on Tuesday 1st November from Fort William to Carnforth. Mentioned by one of the support crew last week, and indeed timings which match have appeared on RTT : http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U50661/2016/11/01/advanced

Thanks for the info. I had assumed Monday but I'll be back home by then, chasing the SRPS train and then to the NYMR on Sunday

My shot of 44871 from last Monday,no graffiti visible so the pictures in the newspapers must be from stock
