    The bodies of the old carriages where falling apart. Something had to be done. The new cars are so long you can't run two trains together like we did, because of the loop lengths. Never saw the new cars.

    Yes on my first trip up there (early 90s) the carriage body would creak and groan and flex at every change of gradient, with huge gaps opening up above the doors. It was an experience, but perhaps not the safest one! It's a shame the new coaches don't look more like the originals though.
