Thanks Mike, I'm not really one for posting I just felt this event warranted more publicity than it was getting after the effort which must've gone in to set it up.

In case anyone is around tomorrow or Sunday, the first pairing of an A3/A4 working on a train since 1961 will happen between 1 & 2pm both days

Flying Scotsman and friends at Shildon 29-30 July 2016

Flying Scotsman took a break in its inaugural year from main line runs and preserved line visits, to go on display for nine days at Locomotion Shildon, the northern outpost of the National Railway Museum. Also on display were other steam icons from the LNER and NER eras, not to mention one of the NRM's two Deltic diesels.

Having booked a photographic visit in the early morning of Saturday 30 July, we arrived on the Friday night and had a quick look round the museum during the last hour of general opening. Returning the following morning in glorious sunshine we had free range amongst the exhibits (including an impressive forklift in Deltic colours!). The only constraint was the low sun which made some photographic angles problematic.

The highlight of the session was when Scotsman herself moved to take up her place on the brake van shuttles - a heartwarming finale to an excellent visit. Congratulations to the Shildon team for their excellent organisation of the event.

I'm sure I will be shot down in flames for this. I would have made the long journey for this but didn't because that hideous building in the background spoils the whole illusion. Would it have cost much more to have produced something more in period?

It's possible to get decent photos and minimise the building...

Attended yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately didn't get there in time for the double heading, but it was still a fantastic few hours. Great line up for a free event (I put some cash in the donations box), credit to Anthony and everyone else involved. Hung around until nearly closing time and was able to get some photos in the sunshine without people in the way, one of which is below.

PS First visit to Shildon and I think there's nothing wrong with the building, like how much natural light it lets in to show off the collection housed within.
