In that case a BR Standard '2-8-2', even though that also ticks a lot of practicality and maintenance boxes...

If you build something that hasn't existed before then it won't be a replica! :p

Last time this, or a very similar question was asked I said "a Jersey Lilly", I have not changed my mind, one can but dream!

Two railways which were big in terms of size but not well represented in preservation are the GCR and LNWR, I would like to see this addressed if possible.

The George V is under way, how about a Prince of Wales 4-6-0 to follow on?

On the GC, I like the idea of an A5 tank, or possibly a J11?

But not for heritage line use. I'd like to see that one doing Bristol -> London on the mainline (with a 90mph speed restriction).

I suppose you could make a case for the 4400 class. A bit more low speed TE than the 4500s with the small wheels, and a short (11'6) wheelbase and a pony truck each end ought to be kind to track and flange wear. Trouble is its a lot more money than a 5700 for not that much more capability. And again its superficially the same as a 4500, so no wow.

Fair point. I'll have to settle for a Duke then. As originally built with Mansell bogie wheels, short tender and straight nameplates. I'll start marking out the frames...

In the true spirit of this comment, I'd go for a "Hush-Hush" and a Turbomotive.
For non-replicas, I have a 5AT and a Quadraplex Super Garrett - a double Allegheny sounds good. I'm sure the steel industry would welcome it even if no-one else would.

And then there's the Paget, in the same spirit.

I presume you mean a Garratt, otherwise that sounds like a beast of a traction engine. :)

Too similar to the Earl of Berkeley. A Barnum would have the same boiler and similar cylinders, only slightly larger wheels and the added interest of sandwich frames.

Which heritage line have you got a grudge against then?

The Paget would be fantastic on a tiny heritage line where it shuffled back and forth and didn't really get chance to warm up. It would be if it got a long run and its cylinders started to get decently hot, that it would run into trouble!

A 2-4-0 Beyer Peacock for the IoWR would be a nice addition to the Railway and fill a miising gap. Plus a second 02.

Some interesting ideas but I think it would be a good idea to wait until some of the current projects are, at least at a late/advanced stage before starting on new suggestions.

The first ones to be completed look like either the Patriot, Brighton Atlantic, NER G5 0-4-4 tank, Grange and Saint.

I would guess that the next ones will be the GWR 4700, Class 3 2-6-2T, P2, Clan, that then leaves The LNWR George, GER 2-4-2 tank, GCR 4-4-0 No 567, BR Class 3 77000 2-6-0 and probably others I have forgotten.

A few others that seem to be at an early stage are the GER Claud and B17

While it might be a good idea to get some projects finished before starting others, this only works if it is a single group doing the work - if someone starts a project tomorrow to build loco X there's not a lot anyone can do about it!
People will pay into projects that excite them, even if that adds to the list of partially completed locos.

I doubt we'll ever see a Claud or B17 from the current groups - the Claud group seem too disorganised and more concerned with drawing 3d models of parts than actually physically producing anything and the B17 footballer project has been going for maybe 15 years with little or no results (I don't count the tender as progress as they bought it as scrap and only repainted it), the other B17 project has made a little more progress with the mainframes cut, but now seem to have run out of money.

There is also quite a lot of upcoming narrow gauge new builds. Such as Lyn and the new double Fairlie.

Could you make a Robinson B1 as a joint project?
