The 5 on the front would look more realistic recalling some of the double heading on the WC mainline but I'm just pleased it's a decent pair of locos.

Modern cars don't need running in as they did in the old days, mine have just suggested you don't over rev the engine for the first 1500 miles and don't exceed 80 mph. I don't know how far you are thinking of going but it should be a good shakedown trip for the car. I hope to catch my last shot somewhere on the climb to Brewham Summit

Just hope the 5 gets the run from Bristol 'unencumbered' to make Llanvihangel Summit filming worthwhile.

Surely you mean "Just hope the 5 gets the run from Bristol 'unencumbered' so the paying passengers get what they paid for." ;)

Jacobite aside 44871 seems not to have many solo mainline outings?

I'm told Noggin has gone to a good home.
We're going (almost) all the way: first shot on Wed is likely to be around Burngullow, and we'll probably try for an "end of the line" shot at Wick station on Sunday. Copy Pit will probably be the last shot Wednesday week - I don't expect there will be a chance to get ahead of the train again before steam comes off at Doncaster.
A few years ago, 44932 worked the Bristol - North-West leg solo and did OK, though she didn't seem to have much in hand on Filton bank. Will they let 44871 go alone this time? Maybe, maybe not. If the diesel shadow can be pathed just behind the train, at least for the Bristol - Hereford section, then maybe. However, I'd not bet on it. Everyone is more cautious about loadings than they were even 2 years ago, with good reason

Eminently sensible. Bristol to Grange-over-Sands is a long way and it's not flat.

That is one hell of a running in trip, I was only thinking of day 1

  14. Well Almost cancelled day three after that post but will be at Llanvihangel and I am just hoping, praying, keeping everything possible well and truly crossed that we see and hear 44871 working hard and that it isnt just shoved all the way up by the bloody thing on the back. :Meh:

Come on Shirley, if RC is in the seat then do you really think he will allow 48 to do hardly any work?

Just noticed that the duo will be stuck behind a stopper all the way to Reading just like that year. A shame as Sonning Cutting looks really good with all the lineside clearance, but don't fancy seeing them trundling. I guess it would be a risky shot anyway given that they crossover to the down relief line just a mile up the line.

The weather forecast for Newbury on Tuesday morning is for long sunny spells!! :)

The down side is that there will be a strong north-westerly wind gusting from 35-40 mph :(.

If you are heading to Crofton just be reminded that this has caused problems in the past. <BJ>

Thanks for the warning, I've had problems there before, the usual challenge the wind being wrong way for the sun, Sonning should be ok though

They will just need to go faster to keep the exhaust clear of the sides. Maureen, pass that along to the crew please, regulator to the roof at Crofton.
