Almost luxury at the moment with five steam locos available to cover two daily turns! Also good to see sets have been reduced to five which is much more in keeping with traffic levels at this time of year. Five is an ideal load for the likes of 65894 & 29. Hopefully, both those locos will be around in 2017.

Indeed speaking of the Moors "fairy Godfather" so to speak. Jos De Crau was a Dutchman of that generation to have lived through and remembered the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. As such he had a certain amount of hostility to the Germans, thus he felt black engines were a sign of "the Bad Guys" i.e. the Nazi regime and as such felt 80135 shouldn't be black. So he'd taken a liking to LMS maroon and as the 4mt tanks were based on the LMS design leading to the liking. Though was talked into changing to BR Green as per the smaller 2-6-2 3mt tanks and the rest as they say is history. Why none were painted green in BR days I don't know, but, as the Moors has operated 80135 for far longer than BR, green is now a historic livery for her at least and personnally speaking quite nice too.

It was only the WR that painted it's small engines green from 1956 and no 2-6-4Ts were allocated to the Western until late on in steam days so none were ever green.

    Or possibly BR maroon...

That was meant as a flip comment, but I now realise that it would look rather good.

Would this be a fair summation of the current situation with out of traffic locos?

    Back some time this year: 44806, 61264, 80136, 926.

    Back next year: 29, 65894, 34101, 80135, D5032.

    Bubbling under: 3672, 30825, 30830.

    Long term: 5, 75029, D5061, D2207, 12139, ED16.

    Unknown: 3814.

    Forget it: 30841.

Out of interest how long will 44806 be back for before it needs the boiler overhauling? Was trying to work out when it came back into traffic at Llangollen?

How long is a piece of string? However, if you want my best guess, I would say:
Sometime this year: 44806, 61264, 80136. 30926 may just make it before the year end.
    Sometime next year: 29, 65894,
The rest, I'm not prepared to speculate on but 75029 may be sooner than you think.
Sometime in 2017, I think. However, a lot of mechanical work has been done whilst it has been out of traffic and the boiler isn't considered to be too bad so it may be a quickie.

There are big plans in the pipeline to speed up the backlog.

I stress that these are my own thoughts and I'm not prepared to bet even a small Mars Bar on it being correct.

    Thanks Steve.

Looks like an exciting year loco wise- potential great gala line up for the end of this year/beginning of next!

I don't think there's any evidence for including 30830 at this stage, but I think that 30825 is probably making steady progress. Also, once No. 29 is back in traffic the LLT will start to pick up on No. 5.
