Dropped time up to the castle? That's not good, was it bad coal? Poor firing/driving? Or David Cameron's fault? Think we better start a new thread for this!

Look at the wibble you started, what were you thinking?

The above comment is strictly in a mods hat off mode.

Diverted thro' Marks & Spencer's by control (Mrs W) then held for 2m at pelican crossing. Poor fuel, Sainsbury's sausage and egg butty (other supermarkets and other sandwiches are available). Note to self, buy only premium food when travelling on railtours. Better stop now, I can see the naughty corner looming (again).

Reminds me of a memorable trip to Aberdeen from Nottingham in March 1979 on a Merrymaker (wasn't very merry in Aberdeen in March!). On the return behind 40032 (think that was the one), following a stop at Carstairs in the middle of the night (either a crew change or to detach a defective coach, or both) we covered the stretch to Carlisle in 61 minutes - trying to sleep on the Beatock curvy stretch (in the first coach as well, the engine roar going under bridges was deafening) was impossible, it was like being on a roller coaster! When I asked the driver at the Carlisle loco change what speed we were doing, his reply was "I don't know, the speedo only goes up to 120..."

I would apologise for my earlier comment, not realising that Kettle technology was no longer at the head of the train. But as so much good natured amusement has resulted ill just smile instead:)
    Have a good Easter Everyone.
