Thanks for the complement mate. Lyneham is a very nice place to film of a steam engine working flat out. I had to use my wellies to get through thick mud to get to my spot.

From the outside, what is so impressive is the way this loco runs up hills and down with no apparent fuss. No doubt it's different on the footplate, with someone working b----y hard shovelling, but in the train, even near the front, a lot of the time there's nothing to hear. The exhaust could be heard (and sounded most impressively even on all beats) when we were accelerating, but hardly at all on the climbs at Box and Dauntsey. I could however have done without a certain person in a nearby seat who liked the sound of his own voice a bit too much.

By the sounds of it we've suffered the same voice in the past. We had the opposite this time where the chap had his music headphones on and the lady kept muttering "never again". Takes all sorts I guess.

Pity you couldn't have put your head out of the window as in the old days. Lots of noise, but from the right source; the locomotive!!

    Here are my detailed logs.

Average speeds between timing points are based on whole miles and chains and are not very accurate over short distances.
