No thread for this yet. Any news on this and whether Tangmere is likely to work it?

34067 hurrying through Arlesey earlier this morning. Box just ticking over on the back but gaining four minutes between Stevenage and Hitchin would suggest a healthy shove in the rear on restarting from the Stevenage pick up. Typically for a GN steam run the light was dire.

So nice to see Tangy out and about again.

Ease her back into main line duties with a diesel to help when needed seems very sensible indeed to me. And with an otherwise load of 14 -15 cars equivalent some help will be really useful at times.

But without the box the load would not be 14/15 equivalent. Apart from the initial start out of KGX, there's nothing that's really steep between there and York. As for "easing her back on to main line duties," IMO if the job's been done properly, and it should have been, then no easing is required.

But for all we know the owners may have requested the presence of the diesel....

Remember that Kings Cross - York trip 34067 did a while back? The one when the class 57 failed before departure so had to be left on the blocks. 34067 had to be taken off the train at Doncaster to go into an not electrified yard for coal to be pulled forward.

Maybe that's why it needs a tail end diesel to help out, to eke out the coal?

Of course, but Tangy has not been the most reliable performer in the last couple of years. As she once was.

And of course I hope she is soon back on main line duties unassisted wherever and whenever possible. That will almost certainly see me out to travel behind her again: my first mainline steam run since 9th July 2012.

5 mins early through Hambleton, plenty of white smoke/steam just after an icy rain shower, some diesel noise though.
    My vid' on Youtube tonight.
