I have to confess and without tempting too much fate over the nearly 19 years I have had too much trouble with freeloaders although I did admire the efforts of one individual who tracked out onto the moors to capture the West Highland Steam Bash at Corrour . a bigger challenge in the public who even on a non running day want to have a look round and of course want to show the children the lovely steam loco . I try and explain nicely what is going one and show them a place to safely watch before the inevitable "get out of the (insert word) way" Some railways now give access to all their running information and it was quite interesting to see how many were at Bridgnorth for 60163 on the charter days

I have seen Facebook pictures of 41312 in steam on the pit road at Ropley today. I won't repost them but I'm sure someone else will post shortly!

    Looks fantastic!

Hope I don't get a contract on my head now, but the emblem does look a little close to the lining on the corner of the tanks there? I thought the emblem was usually closer to the next row of rivets towards the cab, so the real question "is there actually a correct location for the emblem, or is it anywhere within a certain limitation?"

    Great to see her back!

    Nice going Steve. :)

Only one complaint - its too shiny.................... & don't tell Ollie I said that!! Though I do like his weathering on the smokebox ring. ;)

Given the Atlas is full of Dumpies, what are they up to at Ropley?....... :Shifty:

Also reported elsewhere that the Great Missendan Signal Box is moving from the yard at M4M to Ropley by road, supposedly on Wednesday........ that'll please drivers on the A31!! :)

I think you might be right - if you compare with this pic (not mine) from 1960:
    [IMG] [IMG]
the crest looks OK vertically but it seems like it should be much further back towards the cab.
The right hand edge of the crest looks as though it might line up with the short vertical column of 3/4 rivets at the top of the tank roughly in line with the c/l of the dome.

But that's not to take away from a superb job by the Ropley team.

Looks like a good year for Ivatt 2MT tank engines with 41313 making good progress at Cranmore and 41298 working onthe IOW .

Yes you are right, the emblem is just a bit too far forward. However, which would you prefer - 41312 as she is now with a slight error or like this?

No contest, I suggest. Well done to all on restoration.

(Edit: Original post now included to hopefully remove any suggestion that this was nitpicking and merely answering a question.)

Big Al, I was congratulating the team on their work and I asked a valid question as to whether there was a set position for the crest? I was not criticising what they had achieved, nor am I trying to nit pick. I am genuinely interested to hear if the crest position varied as a researcher/modeller/model engineer.

If you're going to quote anybody in the future, then please use the full quote and don't take it out of context.

Well said Paul. There are too many over sensitive people in preservation who bury their heads on the sand.

On a lighter note though, whats a few inches between friends where the emblem is concerned, LOLOLOL
