Here are photos of two Hurricanes preserved in Moscow. One is unidentified but one carries the serial BN233 which I think is authentic. Both aircraft were sent to the USSR during WW2, as was a Matilda tank which I also photographed. Britain supplied aircraft to Russia during WW1, and I have included a photo of Sopwith Triplane N5486. It is one of only two 'Tripehounds' to survive, the other being in the RAF museum at Hendon. The photos are in an album showing Soviet aircraft of WW2. As well as the British and Soviet-built aircraft, it includes US aircraft.

Yes indeed, fascinating how many are mock-ups. What does that say about remembering the past glories of their armed services.

Stalin had a bit of a purge of any foreign hardware lest the good comrades thought that the decadent west had assisted them in the Great Patriotic War. Luckily a few items survived.

I visited the Dresden War museum in DDR days. The way WW2 was presented was interesting to say the least as was the commentary from the compulsory official guide.
