Looks that way doesn't it. Can't blame the KWVR and the owners of 34092 for not trying. Still looking forward to the gala though.

Has the incoming move for 4936 been revealed yet? Assume still necessary by rail.

Given the general and continuing farce with the Network Rail gauging unit does anyone know if a route for 4936 has been agreed yet, or even looked at?

It was declared out of gauge for the 27th September Cathedrals Express at very short notice so I have some doubts as to the likelihood of it being permitted into the West Riding by rail, and road movement has already been ruled out.

I'm sure a Hall has visited the KWVR a few years ago but I'm not sure whether that came by rail or road.

    From the Gala Webpage.

'These fascinating, behind the scenes, tours start from the Booking Hall at Haworth Station and will last for approximately 45 minutes. The tour involves walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, and includes steps. For this reason, it is not suitable for those with mobility problems. Regretfully open toed shoes are not permitted. Tours are limited to 16 persons. Access to the sheds is only permitted for authorised groups who must remain together at all times.

Please be aware that because this is both a hazardous and a working environment, tours may have to be curtailed or cancelled without notice. Children under 16, therefore, MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult. Details of times for the tours will be announced prior to the event. There is no charge, but we do ask guests to consider making a Gift Aided donation, usually in the region of £5, to the KWVR Charity (no 1136853).'

The train that has Pullman cars Anne & Mary in the set, are these for "show only", first class supplement or other reasons, as I cannot imagine they will be open to ride in for all and sundry?

Assuming she is a) coming via rail and b) coming via Carnforth would be interested to know also - we rarely see a Hall in these parts (especially painted the correct colour!)

Word is on other threads that Wells is returning to ELR for a further hire period ; i'm assuming to haul Santa Trains etc.

Hopefully this isnt a sign of things to come....and it will come back at some point

Statement from KWVR's Facebook page just now...

    "STATEMENT ON AUTUMN STEAM GALA:

It is with heavy hearts and regret that we have been informed today by our partners West Coast Railway Company that locomotive 4936 'Kinlet Hall' has been declared out of gauge by Network Rail in the Keighley area and therefore will not be able to visit the Railway this weekend.

As you can appreciate we have a lot of plans already put together for the event which our volunteer organisers are now working hard to re-work to bring to visitor's to the event an interesting and stimulating Autumn Steam Spectacular.

No other visiting locomotives are available at such short notice for the event so our own locomotives will substitute for 4936.

Updated timetable, fares and information will follow shortly to reflect these changes. No questions will be answered until that time."

Absolute p***s take. I really feel for KWVR.

    This isnt the first time Network Rail have screwed over Gala plans last minute;

Kinlet Halls visit to NYMR this spring.
60007 visit to NNR last year.

Why can't these checks be made before the hire agreement is announced/advertised??? Madness

How long ago was this movement requested? 4936 visit has not been advertised too long compared to most other movements. There is a minimum time for requests (which I don't know myself) and so did NWK Rail have to do the checks late/out of sequence compared to usual timescales? It may be disapointing but if the system says no, the system says no. Not a lot you can do.

I dont think we'll ever find out the timescales on when things were submitted/assessed etc

However KWVR are an experienced bunch and i imagine the paperwork, measurements etc were submitted to NR long before today.

But as you say if it won't fit, theres nothing NR/KWVR can do.

Absolutely gutted as well. As part of the halls support crew, the past few weeks have been difficult with much work coming to nothing. Please becawaeexas stated that WCR and Kwvr tried there utmost to make this work.

    The system has changed.

British Rail used to employ Permanent Way gangs. Network Rail employ contractors, who employ subcontractors who employ the cheapest labour they can get away with. Why be surprised that Network Rail track has worse clearances than 30 years ago?

British Rail trusted tape-measures & theodolites. Network Rail trusts gauging & ultrasonic rail testing trains (though seemingly not in Central Wales).

British Rail used common sense. Network Rail uses bull shitters & accountants,

British Rail employed railwaymen. Network Rail employs greengrocers - lemons a speciality.

So lets all welcome change, lets pay the PR politzi a few million & let them call it progress. It must be true.

Anyway enough from me in my armchair, my knowledge & experience is 30 years out of date. The fact that the system worked ten times better 30 years ago is purely coincidental.
