As I'm sure you know, both of those wagons on the GWSR are in a dreadful state.

I'm afraid I'm not as au fait with the carriages you've mentioned, a bit before my time I believe, although part of it I think was to do with GWR175 (And it was incredibly successful as well I might add - not a large profit, but a huge awareness for our railway). Also linked with GWR175 was the unique horsebox that came from Swindon. It spent around 5 years in the workshop and is now sheeted due to rotten wood. Plus of course Iron Duke which sat in Toddington car park for over a year without the marquee over it, at one point covered in snow.

Sorry to have to step in here but we don't wish for misinformation to cause confusion or harm future potential hire opportunities. 3850 is being based at the GWSR for overhaul, there is no long term hire agreement between ourselves and the GWSR upon the completion of said overhaul. Once she is ready for traffic again we shall seek hire opportunities for her from interested railways, of course the GWSR 'might' be one of those that express an interest if they have a requirement at that time.

    Regards,

I didn't know it was still around.
One of my fancys is to rebuild the Broadway horse dock. Note that it was not a cattle dock, but specifically used for horses. There was a cattle dock over the road next to the goods shed. The Broadway horse dock was used by the North Cots Hunt to bring/dispatch horses, and during WW1 it was used to assemble and send horses to the front.
In its later years it was the base of a group of local photographers, and some of their shots you can see on the Broadwaystation website.
Wouldn't it be a great place for this horse box?
Attached is a picture of the Broadway horse dock, taken in 1950 by John Diston, one of the 'horse dock' photographers.

Caption says "28xx" but the copper capped chimney and nameplate suggest a "Hall" or a "Grange."

Come to think of it, I haven't seen it recently. I don't think its gone though. It would be great if it could be displayed at Broadway one day, I've thought before it's a shame there's nowhere to put it at CRC as it would be appropriate there.

Yes. LMS iron ore hopper also from Mangapps has definitely arrived. The two GWR tool vans No 92 and No 4 left bound for Sharpness a few days ago, along with what I think was this LMS coach, but could be wrong. It was the one tarpaulined up next to the 2 RM coaches at Winchcombe, and I don't know if that has actually gone to Sharpness or not. Also the 03 and class 14 from Toddington, and a british Gypsum shunter have all arrived reasonably recently.

    Hello,
I have being told the The VoB has issues with running powers due to Nuclear Flask Trains. One Linear scrapyard to another?

If nothing else this shows that just because there is a lightly used / disused railway around it does not follow the Heritage movement will be permitted to make use of it.

Any updates on vale of berkeley lately? Seems as though it'll be a decent line when up & running particularly with it being a docks railway system.

Plus they've got an industrial diesel shunter which will add to the flavour of the place. Really looking forward to when they actually open.

Only just noticed this thread. Yet more Byzantine goings on. Grrhh!

What's byzantine about it? A group of loco owners seem to have decided they'd rather like their own railway rather than submit to the restrictions of being based on someone else's. If that is correct, and the principals own all their own rolling stock and keep it all under cover somewhere where there are ready-made sheds and workshops and (eventually) a short running line, does that not meet all your ideals for a railway?

I see myself as very much the anti-PaulHitch, being very positive about potential new schemes. That siad I must admit though VoB seems like a bafflingly pointless idea

I hope it is not a matter of being "pro" or "anti" one enthusiast! My view about railway preservation is that as far as the standard gauge is concerned it has been going for nearly sixty years and it is time it grew up.

Instead of consolidation we get "flouncings off", a bit in the manner of the small boy taking his cricket bat home or, dare it be said, religious schisms. After 50+ years there are still a regrettable number of half finished schemes/heaps of scrap, around

How long is the running track? With a few facility's could this not be a good little place for mainline locos to be based instead of Barton Hill?

The fact that the standard gauge scene is still thriving after 60 years would tend to suggest the movement is doing something right as a whole but it's easy to snipe from the sidelines isn't it?
