Welshpool Town Council has started work on restoring the former W&L / Cambrian dual gauge exchange siding and cattle dock (close to the present Network Rail station).

The site has been overgrown since it was isolated from the rest of the W&L in 1963. The surviving dual gauge track and cattle docks (complete with pens) are being restored as an additional heritage attraction to the Town.

Pictures on the W&L Facebook site show the area has been cleared of undergrowth by a contractor this week.

No chance of rebuilding the line thru Welshpool town, I suppose?

I do believe there is a Tescos on the route plus a busy roundabout but yes , wouldn't it be brilliant if they could .

Well, if it went down the centre aisle of Tescos, passengers could shop from the windows and pay the guard!! :D

Also a public library! Apart from that, though, most of the route can still be walked, and the bridge over the canal is still intact. I do wonder whether preservation-era stock might have been a bit too wide for some of the clearances on the town section, though?

Quite possible , I've known this railway since the late 60s i.e before all the European stock arrived , no chance of them getting down Tescos central aisle , nor between the houses . They say that's progress for you .
