The GCR runs between Loughborough and Leicester with plenty of accommodation to choose from giving easy access to the line.

As a first choice contact the GCR to see if it has recommended accommodation but also note that the line is totally in Leicestershire so try GOOGLE by inputting Leicestershire Accommodation and checking which options suit your needs.

Try sites such as Late Rooms and Booking.com. There is a Premier Inn in Loughborough but it does not have its own carpark, and you have to pay for parking at one of the carparks opposite.

  5. Hi,

Judging by your post and profile photo, I'm guessing you're not a UK native?

Here are three well-meaning pieces advice from me:

    1. We don't really do 'motels' like you get in the US. Anywhere that does brand itself a 'motel' in the UK is best avoided. Trust me, it will be hideous. Look for hotels, guest houses or 'bed and breakfasts'.

    2. As others have said, try Google. Also try TripAdvisor.

    3. In the UK we are less direct than our Stateside brethren. We like and respect a bit of politeness. So, if asking for help, using the word 'please' goes a long way to making sure your average UK native reacts helpfully and without sarcasm. It may seem like a small point, but it's an important one. We also like to hear 'thank you' whan assistance has been provided, however useful (or not) it turns out to be. As we say over here, 'manners cost nothing.'

    Hope this helps.

PS People frequently swap the signs for the ladies and gentlemens toilets (bathrooms/restrooms) over in the UK. It's a traditional joke, especially in provincial towns. Visitors are always advised to try the door with the sign for the opposite sex first, so as not to barge into the wrong one.

As a former resident of Loughborough, the best hotel in the town is the Ramada, which is pretty much bang in the middle. It has its own carpark, and isn't far from Loughborough Central station. However, it can be fairly expensive!

Restaurant wise, there are a few semi-decent places in the town. I (Personal opinion here) would instead take a train to Nottingham, and then take the tram into the middle there. There's a lot more choice, and a variety of different cuisines on offer.

Hope this is of some use,

    Tom.

Back in January, I stayed at the New Life Guest House in Loughborough - I can highly recommend it. Very comfortable, welcoming and a good breakfast. About 5 minutes drive to the GCR.

    Cheers,

When my partner and I visit the GCR (usually in a heatwave at the end of January when you only have to spend 2 hours de-icing the car) we stay at the Cedar's Hotel.

    Website: http://www.thecedarshotel.com/

It might not be the Ritz or the Hilton but the rooms are comfortable and good value for money, the staff are always helpful, there is plenty of on-site car parking available and the railway runs right past the hotel. The hotel iswith in walking distance of the centre of Loughborough and the GCR's railway station.

    Hope this info is helpful.

Well, in my 60+ years on this earth I've never come across this so I guess you're pulling someone's plonker. Either that or I don't frequent the same establishments as you!:Angelic:

Can't go far wrong with the Premier Inn, stayed there at Easter for the GCR Vintage Country Fair. Multi story car park across the road was around £6, Premier Inn charge that for their own car parks anyway. It might be a bit basic for some, but if you haven't stayed in one for a while they've really updated and even have a good selection of bottled ales!!!

Oh while I think about it beware, there's a chicken and steak house down the road (don't remember the name now, Fernando's or something like that) but shockingly it's alcohol free!!!
I know, could barely type that then!!

No, I think it was Mr Branch's idea of a joke. As the OP asked a serious question, it's a shame he didn't get a more helpful response.

It rather amused me, though it was quite good myself! the OP didn't ask a serious question, he demanded an answer. I think we've all been rather good.

It might help to remember that other cultures have a different approach to ours, which may seem alien to you, but can still be answered politely.
