Thanks for the video....I had such a PITA day in London traffic that I decided not to go back, instead opening a nice bottle and sat in the garden with Mrs B instead. I missed a good one!

Looked absolutely pristine. Saw what I now know to have been the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Waterloo before the departure. Photos attached from Imperial Wharf on the empty stock turn, and Clapham Junction (doing around 50mph). 'Clan Line's' typical clean exhaust and the warm evening meant that both photos could just as well be showing stationary trains, but the sounds were certainly there! c600 tons behind the tender.

They were in fact the more famous and successful Red Hot Chilli Pipers... Not the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
It's only a technicality - one plays the Pipes and the other doesn't!

It's amazing how you can suspend belief when it's something that you'd actually want to be true. My first thought was 'how cool was that' but it was tempered by the thought of how a band, famous for dressing in just socks (and not necessarily on their feet), might go down with a typical British Pullman audience, bless 'em.

As promised last night, 35028's night time assault on Gomshall Bank! :)

If you want 4 minutes of Bulleid magic, I'd skip to 3:20.

Brilliant James. That was a most impressive performance from 35028 and her crew. I don't think I have ever heard anything go up the bank like that.

Magic indeed. It's hard to believe that a locomotive looking and sounding as good as that is destined to be in bits in about a month....and with the equivalent of 16+ on the hook.

Indeed - the condition and the presentation of the loco is a credit to all involved. Scarcely a whisper of a steam leak anywhere, and looking as if she had just emerged from the works after overhaul, rather than be just about to enter them!

We caught the distant at Chilworth, down to just over 10mph before I saw the home at Green.
609 tons on my paperwork, she accelerated up the climb to 30 mph, then held that until just before the top.
Dropped back to 28 mph briefly before dropping down to Gomshall.

Not enough detail to be accurate. But a 'back of the envelope' suggests around 1600 drawbar hp although quite a error margin in there!

My photos from Battersea Railway Bridge / Imperial Wharf...and some shots of those fireworks. If only I'd known a video legend was stood at the other end of Chelsea Bridge.

Left arrow from the first photo will take you in turn to the rest:

Did anyone notice that on the return, Clan Line ran from Redhill to Clapham Junction in 22 minutes for the 18 miles. Nothing out of the ordinary you might think until you factor in the restriction coming round from Reigate and the 45 at East Croydon. I suspect that Clan Line may have been hurrying along in the dark.
