    Hi,
The Border Reivers will be running on 27 June, which includes a run southbound through Ayrshire. I'll be visiting in Kilmarnock then, but I do not know the area. Can anyone recommend a good spot to view the train? An uphill section would be nice.

    Thanks
    Clyde

Well, the most challenging section for 60163 will be from Newton Junction up through Annbank on the freight only line to Mauchline - it's not the most salubrious location though. The climb up to Mauchline on the branch is pretty steep and, if the Mauchline Jct signalman doesn't have the outer home off (which he won't if there's a train signalled on the down main) then that will prove to be an interesting restart. On the GSW mainline, from Mauchline to Polquhap summit (a mile or so north of Bank Junction),it is a good climb and I'm sure that there would be suitable locations on that section. Perhaps google earth might help you find a suitable location there.
