The Corris railway yesterday took delivery of a new diesel loco from Austria via Romania where it had been regarded, rewired and painted. It is an Orenstein & Koppel (O & K) 0-4-0 760mm gauge Diesel locomotive (Works Number 25721). This was originally delivered on 27th of March, 1957 to E. Weiß & Co., of Vienna. The locomotive was then sold to a paper mill in Steyrermuehl also in Austria The works line there opened in 1916 and closed in 1988. In 2002 the new Corris Number 11 passed to “Club 760” at Mauterndorf in the Austrian Alps for use on their preserved line. Club 760 operates steam trains during the summer months details of which can be found at http://www.mauterndorf.at/en/summer/taurachbahn.html . The locomotive was recently put up for sale as it had become surplus to requirements. Whilst at Mauterndorf repairs were started including new tyres and a new electric 24V system. Number 11 has a V8 Deutz engine.
After fettling, testing and staff training the loco will take its place on the Corris Roster providing back up to Number 7 and pulling works trains. It will be ideal for the operation of heavy trains on the steeply graded southern extension when work starts in ernest on this section of the line.
