Difficult one to call this. On one hand RTC say there is positive feedback about the WCR, NR and ORR discussions and they are clearly saying that things are moving in the right direction but on the other hand, for the very first time I believe, they say they may pull the plug on the whole tour. Wouldn't like to bet on which way this one will go!

No it's to do with it being a steam engine.

I agree that this message from RTC is much more positive but it is also realistic in that they have clearly got the message that people will not accept a mainly diesel tour and thus RTC is considering cancellation.

The fact remains that if WCR do not work the oracle with NR tomorrow, that is what I expect RTC to do. I don't want them to, as I want to see Wick behind steam, but I have no interest in a mainly diesel tour - not what I paid a lot of my disposable cash for.

I agree with others that this is potentially VERY bad news for folk coming from abroad, but it is a pretty unique situation, as RTC mention in their newscast.

As for my being supportive of RTC - if they do need to cancel, they WILL get my support to the tune of the fare I have paid, by me travelling on other tours. Plenty of their European stuff interest me. I know of others who have booked for GB8 who will do other RTC tours instead if this one doesn't come off.

Britannia will be running tender first for a least part of this move, hence the 45mph speed restriction. The trailing load bears no relation to the actual load, but is set to control the maximum rate of acceleration and possibly braking assumed in the scheduling.

We are pleased to be able to confirm that the Great BritainVIII tour will be going ahead.

Your tickets and hotel details will be despatched today by special delivery and will need to be signed for when they are delivered.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience with the delay and confusion which has surrounded this tour.

To reconfirm the train will depart London Victoria platform 2 on Tuesday 28th April at 08.44.

    Kind regards

There was a posting on WNXX forum earlier by someone who said they'd spoken to RTC and had been told it would be steam hauled or cancelled. That was before the latest update though.

Good news for GB VIII passengers and the RTC. So we assume that WCRC has been given permission to operate this tour in some form or another. A light at the end of the tunnel then although in the context of WC wider operations we don't know its colour yet.

RTC told me a moment ago that it will be steam AND diesel and that all would be explained in a Special Delivery letter to me.

The lady said she was sure I would be happy with the arrangements, or words to that effect!

So, if you had to choose the sections of steam haulage & diesel haulage. What day's would you choose for steam, and what day's would you choose for diesel traction. Sounds like from the above post, it could be a 50 50 split.

OK time to step back and wait for the official word, we don't really need more pages of speculation...
