Does anyone have any photo or details of what wagons and tenders were used to make up the Southern railways early weedkiller train, I believe it featured on a Wills cigarette card in the 30's??? I have seen the later trains consisting of converted carriages and tankers, and I know someone who used to work on these for Chipmans, but the one I would like to know more about I believe must have had around 6 tenders used as tanks and a coach or van converted for the actual spraying

Maybe that explains the 'train' in "Call the Midwife" recently... ;)

the chipmans weed killing train had converted coaches and tank wagons, , i can't remember seing converted ex loco tenders, as when i used to see the weed kiling trains it was post steam era , the only loco tender i saw were the 2 at guildford that were slurry carriers i am not sure if the coaches had internal tanks

If you type "southern weedkilling train" into google images you will see the cigarette card that it is featured on. Looks very much like a 6-wheeled van or brake van in the illustration

The picture on the cigarette card is of the pre-war SR weedkilling train, but there was a post-war train which featured on a publicity photo and which, IIRC, consisted of tank wagons and included a couple of standard "pillbox" brake-vans, hauled by a Q class loco. Actually, the brake-vans were not quite standard; they were the rarer 15 ton type, had been vacuum-fitted and equipped with special tool boxes. Also, they were reputed to be the only SR freight vehicles painted in malachite green. One of the pair, DS455, survives at Mangapps.
