Nor does sending a black 5 via Man Vic to Carnforth, potentially crossing with the ECS, then joining the rest of the train on its return to Carnforth. The method of ops intended for 24th Jan not suitable?

Isn't that the nub though? Acheive full booking on one basis, then apply changes which have been known by 3 of the 4 contracting parties for some weeks. The fourth party, the paid up passenger, has Hobson's choice. Agreed, many will be unconcerned but many will be understandably aggrieved.

Only reason I can think is, no time to water 2 loco's at Carnforth, hence sending 5407 up there earlier ?

What makes you think the Jubilee will be on the front? Surely they'll just put the Black 5 on the front as pilot, and leave the Jub as train-engine all day?

And are there actually any facilities to shunt at Brighouse? I think not therefore 45407 on the front all the way.

Spotted on the works a short time ago. This answers all the above questions I think.
    A quote from Ian Riley.

45407 is limited to 60 mph, and there is a need for the train to travel in its original booked path from Manchester to Carnforth at 75 mph, that is necessary so as not to delay any other services on the WCML.

45407 therefore will run at 60 mph light engine to Carnforth to meet the train there.

It is envisaged that 45407 will be pilot loco throughout the day from Carnforth to enable a clean movement at Brighouse where it is detached in the evening.

Delay penalties are very costly, and if steam is to be accepted on the core main lines, practicalities must be considered?

Is there a reason why 45407 can't be detached at Castleton?

So the unavailability of 45699 has more far reaching consequences than might be imagined. At least someone has had the decency to be up front at last.

Posts like this are always welcome, lack of communication is the key problem to 90% of our gripes on here, so IF there is anyone listening out there (you know who you are) the answer is in your hands !

I suspected that top speed was an issue, particularly as its heading in the opposite direction to the usual Preston-Man Vic start on previous trips heading eastwards (Tin Bath etc.), and is taking in Wigan rather than Bolton to Preston via Chorley (the route taken by the January CME in 2o14). As for what will be leading out from Man Vic, that'll be something we won't really know until on the day, as previous experience dictates that the timings on RTT should not be considered gospel until 48 hours prior to the off.

Hopefully an opportunity will occur for this tour to be run in its originally intended format later in the year.

Hopefully marketed by Compass WCRC or Statesman, as I am more likely to believe it will actually take place than with an independent tour operator.;)

RTC now admitting its not Galatea but quoting 44871 not 45407.
Latest, not unexpected news, is strumming duff to Carnforth not 45690.

Looks like its difficult to get a path in that direction at that time of the morning, as the Bolton stop is now off the menu, too. Heh-ho.

Well that's what Ian said, it's a 75mph path so it's not possible to put a 60 mph loco on the train.
