The Cumbrian Fells Express - Saturday 30th May

This looks like a great, though long day out, originating from Bristol Temple Meads at 0540, with 60163 from Crewe to Crewe via Shap, the Upperby curve, then south via the S&C with a 2.5 hour break in Appleby rather than the normally obligatory Carlisle which makes a nice change.

Only complaint, and it's a minor one from my point of view, why schedule such a great tour, with the rare opportunity to travel with steam from, and back to Crewe on F.A. Cup Final Day ?

 

Ha ha, not me thats for sure, but at least one friend of mine who's been wanting to do this trip with Tornado for a long while certainly does unfortunately, and I would imagine others might be tied as well. I'm sure there are good reasons, just seems a shame that's all.

While on the subject of Tornado, not sure how many receive the newsletter from UK Railtours, but they are supposed to be emailing details of a new future tour every day this week. Yesterday was the first and included a teaser as to what others may follow later in the week, including Tornado and a Deltic on the ECML. I know it's been done before, and from what I recall was very well received so could be worth keeping eyes peeled for this, : ))
