I was under the impression that the 2 pullman cars that came back from the USA with the baggage van will be based at the Swanage railway (once they have covered accommodation)

Just found the link - https://www.facebook.com/swanagerailway/photos/pcb.768237043224862/768234926558407/?type=1&theater

Pullman Car 'Lydia', repatriated from the USA along with Pullman Car 'Isle of Thanet' were coaches which formed part of the funeral train. Both were brought to the UK by a Swanage Railway supporter and it is the intention that these, including another 'Bertha' will move to Swanage once covered accommodation is constructed. An incentive indeed!

Never say Never, though you are most probably correct for the immediate future.

Why get this one back to working order, when there are more than enough in working order or can be/are been restored to working order.

Agreed, hence the "immediate future" comment. But the NRM wouldn't have paid for some of the re-manufactured parts if there wasn't a chance, however remote, that WC may steam again some day in the distant future.

See this post http://railways.national-preservation.com/threads/34051-winston-churchill.369265/page-2#post-982271 Friends of the NRM raised the money for the new bits, (apparently because it wasn't possible to get old bits to complete the static restoration)

Yes, and if you follow the rest of the thread there is plenty of speculation that there was no point making the real thing instead of non-working replicas unless there was a possibility (however faint) of WC being steamed at some time in the future.
Not saying it will, not saying it won't, but I am saying never say never.

Planned to be 31806 until Friday, then 30053 next weekend with 31806 on Driver Experience, subject to the usual caveats.

Can someone explain to me exactly who would travel to see a museum devoted to Winston Churchill's funeral train and also who would pay for the covered accomodation. It doesn't make sense to do this. Perhaps 2464 could be offered a permanent NRM position, but even so, I'd prefer to see a brake dust covered faded blue example preserved there to represent ordinary parcels trains, a facet not currently represented afaik

Covered accommodation means a running shed, not a museum to house the pullman coaches. The Pullmans need to be undercover, thats what is wanted, then the pullmans can be put into the Wessex Belle formation.

We do have a BR blue 'B' van at Corfe which is the Sygnets base, but it isn't covered in authentic brake dust I'm afraid!

The Swanage Railway website mentions that the M7 was hauling service trains today.
I was rather hoping to travel behind 31625 tomorrow. Is there any chance of that happening?

    Many thanks. <BJ>

31625 is in storage awaiting overhaul, so I'd say your chances are very very slim!! :)

31806 was in service yesterday as Rumpole had advised. The loco looked wonderful in the winter sunlight.
What a wonderful bark it has. The loco was hauling four green Mk.1 coaches.

I seem to be drawn to the Swanage railway more often these days.
A cheque and membership application form will be in the post later today. <BJ>
