The Chairman of the A1SLT posted a photo he had taken of the historic concrete coaling towers and running shed at Carnforth Depot last month.
I assume he did that to stir conjecture as to why he was at WCR headquarters.

Maybe there’s a clue in this Twitter post. I believe that Davies’ consultancy business has the contract from Smith to restore his station property at Aysgarth ….. IMG_7950.jpeg

an interesting pov , it is my observation and not expressly directed at your good self , but all too many know exactly what they would do on social media , but that rarely translates into any action in getting involved running a railway . the reality is if you are willing to work as part of a team and have a good set of general skills you will probably do well

I had assumed that members of the Trust would have a vote similar to the setup of the L&B that has been discussed in depth recently.

    My apologies

Maybe I've missed it amongst legal maters, but NVR are advertising Tornado running on 19/26 and 26/27 October.

On the face of it yes it would be crazy. But it appears neither organisation is run by someone you would describe as a "wallflower", so the only way we are likely to find out is when it does or does not happen.

That’s one possibility. The other is that there were still leaks to be dealt with and so the inspector was cancelled or not approached until the boiler was steam tight. I doubt we will ever know.

Well, the Bayesian priors suggest that it had to be a possibility.

The covenanters have not more rights or influence than anyone else.

What is noticeable is that there are many armchair critics of different projects on here who are quick to say "told you so" if things do seem to go wrong - but they rarely come back when things continue to run smoothly to say "actually, I may have exaggerated that or got it wrong".

Excellent news that the engine is back together and (hopefully) soon to be seen back on the rails.

I have no idea what’s been going on, and no skin in the game either, but my observation is that once again an organisation is in trouble and one of the main accusations is lack of or confusing/inconsistent communication. People may decry the apparent demands made for communication, but it’s a fact of life today.

And likewise, presumably if it does turn out to be as bad as they say, you will be first to admit you were wrong?

The problem for me is not that it is 18 months into a 6 month overhaul, but that there is no explanation as to what caused the delay. Lots of reasons for things that took a long time, bit nothing to explain the critical path.

As an interested party I thought the A1ST had advised that problems fitting and testing the latest ERTMS system had identified problems which had caused the delays. As the first steam locomotive to be so fitted it was always expected that Tornado would be the first to identify (and resolve) fitting of the equipment to steam locomotives.

IMHO, the trust should have never said, or implied the overhaul would have been as quick as 6 months, no overhaul is ever that quick, unless you're doing everything in house, and you have everything at hand, had they said A year to 18 months, that would have been more believable, even then, that's still quick, then at the same time promising the engine to be available, when you had no way of knowing that it would be, Whoever was in charge of the media and press releases, dropped the ball, not just once, but multiple times, until it gets to the point where you're no longer believed. and your reputation is ruined, then you add in ERTMS, and that's another problem, that will throw yet another spanner into your timing, so far, every self-inflicted issue, could have been side stepped with a more realistic time allowance, and honest press and media releases, had the trust did that, people might have been more understanding.
