A while ago I came across a photo taken in, I think, 1969 of the smokebox door of Didcot's 61XX painted in psychedelic 'hippy' colours for a part in a film. The caption to the photo indicated that the whole locomotive had been painted in the way. Does anybody know the details of this, and are there any photos kicking around? Thanks in advance for any information.

I remember this from a report in the Railway Modeller sometime between 1967 and 1970. The whole loco was 'done', but as far as I know, it was in black/white. I can't remember whether the title of the epic was given. RM published the pic you probably have, together with another showing 6106 in conventional guise, passing Pendennis Castle at a subsequent open day. I'm sure that someone from Didcot could provide more details/find out.

Never heard that one, but I wouldn't be surprised - all manner of daftness can occur with film companies :tsk:

I've asked a man wot might kno.

Don't expect too much! IIRC 6106 was only in a very brief dream/fantasy sequence.

I have attached eight pictures from the filming of The Bliss of Mrs Blossom at Taplow goods shed in 1967. My recollection of watching the film (over 40 years ago) is that it was entertaining. A good cast of actors either famous in the sixties, or who subsequently became so - Shirley MacLaine, Richard Attenborough, John Cleese, William Rushton, Bob Monkhouse, Clive Dunn, etc.

Thanks Frank, I figured that if anyone would know it'd be you.

What is it with film companies & fake snow?

    Very interesting seeing those pics.

We did joke about doing something like that when we did the first 60s weekend at Llan!
