It's good to see Pip Dunn publicise the plight of 50033 and trying to force the situation in this months Railways Illustrated (as well as mention of the infamous dent - although there seems to be one at both ends now!)

Fully operational heritage locomotive part of the National Railway Museum National Collection 'handed over' to STEAM museum in Swindon. Locomotive left under-cover storage at STEAM and has been residing outside, uncovered and exposed to the elements at Birmingham Railway Museum (Tyseley) for nearly 2 years. Parts have now been 'liberated' and a roof hatch left open/missing for many months causing damage to the PU that no longer bars over. Questions are a) would this have happened to ANY operative steam locomotive as part of the National Collection? and b) what are the current owners STEAM doing with it as they seem to have washed their hands of the thing?

50033 was removed from the national collection and given to a council-run museum, in a suitable location, where she was kept undercover; what happened next is down to STEAM and has nothing to do with whether she was or wasnt once part of the national collection.

If anyone's interested, there's some interesting debate on wnxx about this loco here, here and here which might save going over the same arguments.

I didnt say there was, merely that it might save people asking questions already answered by those who are, or have been, involved in the loco and its current situation who arent members here.
