I dont believe it. Silly prices can occur if you get a bidding war but £50 is my estimate.

I shall have to be more careful when using one in the future

Indeed, they are getting too valuable to use for their original purpose! I'm frequently asked about the possibility of buying one and the few that appear at auctions seem to make around the £200 mark. The point is, people want them and there are not many available to buy; it's called market economics! Moreover, they deteriorate with use and they don't make 'em any more, so prices are certain to rise.

I think it was Dickens who had a charecter said to know the price of everything and the value of none. I acknowledge market forces price these stoves at a figure greater than I consider a sensible value.

New ones are available to buy, I believe, although the price is a bit hefty @ £425. http://www.angelfire.com/al4/simplex2028/simplex19.html

I stand corrected then, they do still make 'em! However, the price makes an original one at £262.00 look like a bargain!

I'm intrigued by some of the other items offered on that site, such as the replica shed-code plates- any code, brand new for £55 including pattern. I've seen some rather fresh looking shed-plates (allegedly) from scarcer sheds, sold for several hundred pounds at auction. Caveat emptor!

Your view of a sensible value is not very relevant though is it if you are neither a buyer nor a seller?
