    Hi

Can anyone provide any information on this 2ft (I believe) railway which was based near Hersham.

I know it was active in the late 70`s but cant find anything else out.

    Thanks

I spent my formative youth in the area but have never heard of the line. Google however is your friend:-

Middleton Press cover it briefly in their volume:- "Surrey Narrow Gauge including South London" ISBN: 978 1 901706 87 1 http://tinyurl.com/cnffqm

This page covers the signalling (inclusing a track diagram):- http://www.wbsframe.mste.co.uk/public/Mole_Junction.html

Further information on the fate of the railway here:- http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/37168_when_hampshire_was_well_chuffedby_john_walton

    and here:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevington_and_Turvey_Railway

Interesting. I'd never heard of this line until I saw a reference to it in the Moseley Railway Trust's stocklist:

    83 “Rhiwbach”
This petrol locomotive was built by the Rhiwbach Quarry Company for use at their quarry near Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales. It was built using an Austin 7 car engine and gearbox, mounted on a skip wagon chassis, with a chain drive to 1 axle only. By 1953, it was disused and dumped in an old boiler house. In september 1976 it was rescued and moved to the Gloddfa Ganol collection. On 2/12/1979, it moved to John Crosskey’s Surrey Light Railway. On 7/5/1995, it moved to a location in North Cheam, London. On 26/10/96, it was acquired by a MRT member Jim Hay and moved to a site in Somerset. It arrived at Apedale on 21/3/2010.

Does anyone know if this railway was ever open to the public? Or just a private railway?

The last I heard was that the Stevington and Turvey railway closed because of a local vandal attack on the signal box, I think they where planning to move anyway but I am not sure where they went.
