After being on the South Coast for the bank holiday, I decided to call into the GWSR on my way home on Tuesday.

Can I just say thank you to all of the volunteers I spoke to for an enjoyable day. Rode both ends of the line and have to say I was made to feel most welcome by everyone I met, and a number of you took the time to talk about what was happening all over the line.

Such a warm and friendly attitude will only encourage people to come back, and I hope the line is able to come through this difficult period.

    Thanks once again.

    Jon

With my friend I have visited (and travelled on with a combined ticket) on 22nd april, the crippled but lovely GWSR:warm(very) day, warm people (a lot of people along the reopened section); nice day but a bit disappointed for...
-Bus like tickets in place of Edmonson ones
-Forbidden access to the sheds area!(the last time that I visited this railway-in 1997 it was possible to look into and around each corner!)
Nethertheless I'll visit again for the opening of the Broadway extension

Glad you enjoyed your day out! I'm hoping to visit again this month. Last time I visited (November 10) I'm sure the Edmonson tickets were being issued. Regarding visits to the loco sheds, that little privilege went some time ago, mainly for the good old Health and Safety reasons plus, I regret to say, a risk of attracting light fingered people. The GWSR is not alone in having to restrict visitors to parts of its work areas such as the Toddington and Winchcombe sites because of HASAW issues. However, they did do guided tours at one time and probably will again once the GWSR is joined up again and all locos are back at Toddington. The GCR and others have similar restrictions.

How common is it now to get a visit to a loco works or running shed?

OT (and a blatant plug) - Bridgnorth shed is open this weekend, 10am to 4pm, as part of the members and shareholders weekend.
