GWR Axle boxes

Hello all

The next AVR, 813 project is to completely rebuild dia AA21 toad 17464 currently stored off site.

Would anyone know where I could get hold of 2 GW style 10 x 5 axles boxes suitable for a toad, 2 of the 4 were stolen recently while in store. Another avenue we are willing to explore as a last resort is to get some new ones cast does anyone know with the splitting up of the Swindon Historic Castings patterns, does the pattern still exist and where it’s gone?

im afraid im unable to help with your original question, but im interseted in the restoration of the Toad and was wondering if you can let me have any more info.

Ollie - re the patterns, I know one portion went to Didcot so either they will have it/them or will know who got the relevant portion of the collection that you need. You never know they might have spares.

 

Hi. Thanks for the tip about Didcot, I am currently investigating a few possibilities with them to see what’s available i.e. patterns or axle boxes and hopefully should have an answer soon. As a last resort I am going to roll the wheel sets out of 68784 at Bitton and get a pattern made using them.
