Hi, can anyone out there tell me what the material Br made drawhook pins out of was,
from the drawings it just states: "to br material spec" then either 100 ,102, or 103, not sure which, its got to be mild steel of some type, thats what the Southern used , this carrying on from Wraught Iron on Secr drawings .
If it helps the drawings we are using are SC/ES/5212 ISSUE V,Part prefix, SC/ES 5219/1 THE Drawhook number is SC/ES/354/1
Because of wear in the old pins and holes wearing oval, we have to have new pins made and they have to be a modern equivilent of the old material to meet the safety related critea they can not , we have been told be welded up and new bushes inserted , it has to be new material for those who dont know the part, its the long threaded pin that the drawhook attaches to and is damped by buffing springs with a nut secured by a wedge and pin at the end i would think that the old 4veps etc would have used the same part, as these were based on MK1 underframes so if there are any old or current ex SWT fitters or anyone who worked on MK1 stock who has a copy of the mech Spec codes my fellow fitters would be very grateful
