I was on the K1 in May 2008 taking the Jacobite stock to Fort William. As was ascended Beattock we found the lineside ablaze. No doubt we would have been blamed for it but for the evidence that it was alight before we got there.[ATTACH] Peter

A classic example in this photograph of the perils of not clearing lineside vegetation. The metal cabinet didn't catch fire, it was obviously surrounded by vegetation that did and the contents of the cabinet were effectively "cooked". I am old...

Well we thought we were on the move, but now aren't again.. Really feel for VT, seems the communication from NR hasn't been what it should be.

What has to be remembered, when moaning about the diesel doing most of the work, that the cross section of passengers on the train means that there is practically no option to cancel the train when Network Rail impose Red restrictions to steam...

I was looking at some reviews for another railway last night and the recent negative reviews were from people who had been expecting steam but got diesel. Yes the balance may be shifting but for many steam is still the expectation Jon

It's not just those walking away- it will be the disappointing experience for a number who do travel, including people with advance bookings, leading to people not returning, negative word-of-mouth or reviews etc Jon

Using diesel may cost, idk, £500 more per day but if the result is a guaranteed steam journey with 2253, the trip it will pay for itself. Using a class 37 could put off 50 to 100 or more people a day.
