    Tornado on the Fife Circle today, with I believe 12 coaches..
    Stopped on the first crossing of the Forth bridge this morning to allow publicity shots to be taken for the "world heritage status" announcement, any one here have any photos from today ??

    Anybody got any idea why there are three sets of rails on each line? Assuming the extras are check rails but don't know why there are so many! (Besides the obvious answer "you don't want anything to fall off the bridge")

    You basically answered it yourself; anything that derails is best kept in line with the area where the rails are supported underneath (The platework elsewhere will have much less supporting structure underneath). Also keeps any wayward vehicles away from the other running line.
