There has been some discussion within KESR ops dept (mainly on f/b) about the running of trains on Christmas Day. (Since the running of a Pullman on Christmas Day this year)

The general consensus seems to be that it has not happened before on KESR during the preservation era, and probably not since before WWI in the Colonel Stephens era.

Has/does any other Heritage/preserved railway run trains on Christmas Day?

There is probably a market for a lunch train - look at the number of pubs who provide Christmas Lunch at premium prices.

However, would the volunteers turn out for dining car duties? I am sure the footplate volunteers would be up for it.

The Christmas Lunch Pullman at KESR was fully booked, and fully manned.

Fully crewed in kitchen and for waiters and washers up.
Two locos crewed, because no rescue thunderbird loco available.
    Steam raiser and third man.
    Guard.
    Two signalmen and two gatemen.

I'd love to travel and eat Christmas dinner on a train, instead of spending it with family.

It must be brilliant for those dining on the trains that run on the 25th, and I'd like to guess the payment for those who give up Christmas Day is to see the happiness in the customers. Ive been on the loco on Christmas Eve for 11 years or so (first year not doing it in 2016), and the atmosphere is rather specials
