If there is a physical connection to NR at Blaenau that would be interesting. Gauging issues anyone?!....

Some rails were removed and a stop-block installed. Seem to remember that buckeye-coupled mainline stock was not comfortable on some of the curves in the past. Last passenger services were run by 1st gen units.

Could most likely still mean buckeye passenger stock though unless he has a secret stash of screw coupled stock!

Good news to see another mothballed line reopened. I've walked the line in 2008 and compared to the state of the Caulden branch, it should be a breese to do the Trawsfynydd. I wonder if he plans to use 1st gen DMUs as they seemed happy if squeely on that line?

Taking this news at face value (instead of the customary large dose of salt) which steam locos were (would be?) permitted on this route?

The only photos I can recollect are of 74xx & 57xx panniers.

Is there anywhere nearby which is suitably level and straight for a station, and which could have access provided? Running into the current station would in effect be operating on the national network, presumably requiring a setup like the NYMR has - i cant see that happening anytime soon.

To be honest, i really dont think this is going to happen - it simply isnt practical.

In a word no. Certainly nothing near BF town centre.

One might have more confidence if the website hadn't misspelt Blaenau Ffestiniog [Blaneau Ffestonog, sic] and the Festiniog Railway [FFestinog, sic], and despite having a comments section where this was pointed out, they have not fixed it ....

Exactly. I started this thread in the hope that someone out there might be able to tell us a little more about the man behind the scheme. It reminds of another little scheme, in Shropshire, that seems to have drifted away with the smoke from a pipe dream.

However, there is a large area - formerly transhipment sidings - at Traws!

There is also potential for a station at Maentwrog Road ... handy for neither Maentwrog or BF!

I suspect that he is probably thinking of a lower cost option than what most of us have in mind. Lets think DMU or Loco plus Autocoach. No signalling, no run rounds. Strikes me that the main attaction is Traws and this is the link to the town or an added attraction. A bit like a 15" holiday park railway but full size because its there. If you take that mindset then it my be doable. Station accommodation at BF may be difficult but not impossible. For example share the NR platform with bufferstops. The run round loop could be used as a bypass as was done at Ormskirk for years and run round facilities provided at Traws.

Alternately the FR could give up their little used northern platform to allow a platform to be built for trains using the NR run round loop as a platform. (OK unlikely)

Does he have any plans to extend beyond the unloading point to get a bit closer to the "beautiful lake"? Again if you think of a DMU or autocoach and no run round its not too costly.
