    Hi All

Anyone out there who can advise progress on the long overhaul of Taw Valley? Seems like a long time since she was mentioned.

The most recent news i can find of her on here is in this thread:

    viewtopic.php?f=28&t=14627&p=282077&hilit=34027#p282077

But that was back in March. On the SVR forum the latest news which was in May was that the bogie and pony truck were almost completely assembled.

When i visited last week she didn't seem to resemble anything close to a complete loco so i would have thought she is at least 1-2 years away from steaming again.

The boiler is still away at Roger Pridham's. I'm informed a few problems at a number of levels to this contract job have caused progress on the main chassis to slow. SVR permanent staff are focused on the main running fleet.

Latest SVR News says that the leading and trailing trucks* are now fully assembled and waiting to be installed under the frames. Driving wheels scraped, rubbed down and painted. Axlebox horn plates removed and refurbished, and securing fitted bolts and nuts replaced as necessary. Attention now turning to rebuilding the cab. I recall that the frames required much work in terms of loose/worn bolts/rivets. A new outside cylinder was cast some time ago.

Last time the owner reported about the boiler/firebox repair, being undertaken away from the SVR, was that it was turning out to be very expensive.

*Thats what the magazine says. For "leading truck" read "front bogie". Dont want some wit asking if it is a 2-6-2 !!
