Amerton Railway

Congratulations to the railway's volunteers for being awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary service in the 2021 awards. A real tribute to one of the smaller groups in railway preservation.

 

Not good, hopefully it's only the track that's submerged and not the buildings, locos, rolling stock, etc.

 

Driving from Uttoxeter to Stafford on the A518 today there weren't significant amounts of water on the road, so I would hope that the water has subsided somewhat. Driving past Amerton Farm itself it looked like the carpark was open, so hopefully the Farm and Railway have drained. Some of the main roads in Stafford town centre however are a different story.

 

It's better, but still not great.

 

Everything Goes Gala - Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th August.

Following the usual Amerton Railway gala format of an intensive service of passenger and freight trains all day, the railway will be running as many locomotives as possible, regularly swapped between trains.

Locomotives running during the weekend (subject to the usual caveats about serviceability) will be:-
“Isabel” – Bagnall 1491/1897
“Lorna Doone” – Kerr Stuart 4250/1922
Yard No. 70 – Ruston & Hornsby 221623/1943
“Gordon” – Hunslet 8561/1978
Motor Rail 40SD501/1975
A10 – Barclay 3782/1984
Motor Rail 7471/1940 (Saturday only, freight only)

Locomotives will not be double heading during the Gala.

There will also be conducted tours of the loco shed and workshops to see the other locomotives present and work in progress. (Note Both “Diana” and “Jennie “will be away from Amerton visiting other railways during the Gala).

For photographers, photo opportunities from the railway’s land abound and can be accessed by taking the train to Chartley Halt.
