I have a vague memory of a trip with my Mother when I was about 5 years old, to a wedding near Windsor between 1962 and 63.
I can recall coming out of a Subway and seeing a Sand coloured Diesel loco stood at the top of the subway steps.
Can anyone suggest what station was it that I spotted my first Western and which Western might it be?

I'm not sure about which station it might've been, but I assume the Western you saw would have been Western Enterprise (D1000) as I believe that was the only member of the class painted in 'Desert Sand' livery, at least prior to preservation

Depends which way you headed from Windsor. The only stations I know had subways were West Drayton & Hanwell heading east.
Heading west Maidenhead, and I seem to remember, and Google seems to confirm, Reading did in the 60's.
If D1000 was stopped then Reading is the likely candidate as at the others it would be unlikely to be stopping.

Would Reading be a stronger possibility as I think we may have had diversions due to OHLE work on the WCML.
We were traveling down from Liverpool.

Were there subways at Reading? I can only remember a bridge

    I wondered about Slough?
