It looks like the collar that goes around a mk1 buffer shaft when they've been extended for coupling using a chain. Looks very mangled.

    Not EU carriages are they?!

In all seriousness I hope nobody is seriously injured and no lasting damage has been done to locomotive or stock. Real shame, as in all other respects it appears to have been a triumphant visit to the railway up to this point.

Of the two people injured, the BBC is reporting:

"A man and woman sustained minor injuries and were released after being taken to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

A number of people were assessed at the scene but did not require treatment."

My initial thoughts as well, can see the RAIB questioning how secure kitchen items were, hope no serious injuries and that every one recovers and the NRM don’t restrict the use of Scotsman now.

Up to date info on thier Facebook page, looks like Ivatt rather than FS today and tomorrow. They are awaiting FS to be inspected.

Well the DM headline did say "beloved steam train hit by another carriage........." so you could ask how relevant was that when it's obvious that it was 60103 that hit the carriage.

I'd argue any comment pointing out the incompetence of Britain's worst newspaper is relevant. The more people realise how bad the Mail is the fewer will buy it and the greater the chance that it stops existing which , admittedly very unlikely, would result in a better world for us all

    100% on board with that.

The Daily Mail is utter tripe. Weirdly its not even any good for lighting fires with.

The BBC also continues the race to the bottom with its hype-ing use of the word "crash" (suggesting significant damage, etc.) when 'collision' would have been far better. Screenshot 2023-09-30 at 11.02.48.png

Totally agree. Happy to do all I can to hasten its demise. Vile poisonous rag, probably read by Fox et al .

It amuses me to this day that Daily Mail readers will get offended about criticism of their favourite newspaper, but not offended by the content contained within the paper which ranges from intellectually bereft to just to the right of fascism at times.

But of course, it’s everyone else who’s the problem…

I don't know how anyone forks out any money for that vile toe-rag of a paper. It is terrible. I think the readership is thinning out now. They always have piles of them left at the local newsagent and at Sainsbury's. I also read somewhere recently that they are cutting back on the workforce due to falling revenue.

Do we really need to start ranting about a newspaper on here? None of them excel at covering railway news accurately.

Not sure what relevance it is to criticise people for their choice of newspaper, very few (any??) publications can be said to be balanced and impartial including the left leaning ones. Often you need to read several papers to stand a chance of finding the true bits of a story lurking amongst them

A video of the incident has now appeared on social media, easy enough to find on Twitter. Loco appears to have rolled into the stock at approximately 10mph, at least two people were standing on the verandah of the first vehicle.
