Can anybody tell me what the possible issue of running wagons on a heritage railway that have spoked wheels might be?
    Thanks

As long as the wheelsets themselves are in good condition, e.g. axles not cracked, tyres [if fitted] not loose or too thin, good tyre profiles, no significant corrosion. IMHO their should be no issues.

If its to be used o passenger carrying vehicles, then gwalkeriow has said it, if its just a wagon that sees little use there should be hardly anything to worry about, give them a visual exam.

    Several at Middleton.
I reckon that making those is another skill that has gone forever.

Having just watched Mark Williams at it - Wheel tapping is another almost lost art! Give your wheel set a good clout, if it does'nt ring like a bell, then start worring! (That was what we did with all four sets during their spell out of the frames!)

One of my vehicles has split spoke wheels, there is corrosion in the 'V' where the split spokes come together at the rims, due to long-term build up of rust. The advice I've had so far is to "get them sand blasted then we'll have a look" so I don't yet know if they'll be deemed fit or not; time will tell, but I have a spare set lined up just in case. However I'm hoping they'll be ok as the tyres and journals are good. Whether there is a suitable repair method for this problem, I don't know.

Sorry folks as this is slightly off at a tangent but probably not worth its own thread, (if it develops legs/wheels then can always create one but..)
    Does a 16ton Mineral wagon
    a) weigh 16 tons ?
    b) carry 16 Tons ?
    c) weigh 16 Tons when full ?

    thanks

BR 16 ton mineral = capacity 16 tons. (about 16.5 tonnes)

Tare between 8 unfitted and 9.5 fitted.

    From memory from the '70s
