    New Director at the NRM

Excellent news. What he's done in Manchester in just 18 months he deserves a chance at the 'Big One'.

Perhaps we'll now see all the facilities refreshed and in full working order. As a regular visitor to both York and Manchester museums I know which has the better feel.

Just the smell of the Power Hall at the MOSSI makes such a difference compared to the sterile atmosphere of the 'Great Hall'.

Will the diagonal lift at York ever work again?

Surely that depends on who replaces him there? The enhancement in facilities has certainly been appreciated by enthusiasts and the general public so it would make sense for them to continue with current plans.

As for the appointment, I think it is a great move - he clearly has a passion for the subject and I think that is half the battle won, especially if you can put that across in bidding for funding.

    Regards,

    Dan

While we were servicing 5043 at the NRM yesterday Steve Davis came out to see the engine and after speaking to Bob Meanley he went round the support crew shook all our hands introduced himself by his first name and asked us all our names and spent a few minutes speaking to each of us individually.
He seemed to be genuinely interested in what we did and why we worked as volunteers.
He definitely created a favourable impression with us.
Good luck to him and let's hope the bureaucrats don't get in his way with what ever he decides to do to make OUR musum a better place to visit.
