It was a Scotrail strike not a wider RMT strike. So the sleeper would have been unaffected.

It would have relied on Scotrail signalling and other staff

Signalling is down to Network Rail, and the sleeper is crewed by Serco Caledonian Sleeper staff.

ScotRail, the TOC, has no part to play on the infrastructure nor the sleeper franchise. Perhaps you're confusing the 'ScotRail Alliance', which is the programme to ensure a closer working relationship between track owner (NR) and TOC (ScotRail)?

I should have said Network Rail, I just wondered how it got through with the signallers being on strike from midnight.

So firstly, it was a ScotRail only RMT strike on Saturday 29th. No Network Rail relates strike on the 28th, 29th or 30th, so signal boxes/centres would have been manned as normal (subject to any shortages due to no overtime working etc).

Secondly, the wording of the strike action always needs to be looked at closely. Generally, RMT have been selecting dates and ask for members not to attend shifts that begin between 0000 and 2359 of those dates.
What this means is that anybody who is still on shift from a job starting the non strike day previously, e.g nightshift 2100-0700, will still be in their workplace carrying out duties until that finishing time even though it is on the strike day itself.
This is also true of those same type of shifts that begin on the strike day, meaning those rostered don't suddenly pick up tools once the clock strikes midnight and it's back to being a non strike day. It is why most TOCS advertised that there will be disruption the day following strike action, because nightshift rostered staff will still legally not be carrying out the remainder of their shift that spills into the following day.

Thanks for the clarification, the ever honest press would have us believe that everyone walks off the job at midnight

Do the 'media' bother to check the detail?

I thought I would round this thread off with some images of the last week of the 2022 Jacobite season, all taken in the inevitable variable Highland weather. the Last shot is the empty stock working back to Carnforth leaving Arrochar. _DSC7530.jpg _DSC7537.jpg _DSC7557.jpg _DSC7598.jpg _DSC7607.jpg _DSC7628.jpg _DSC7640.jpg _DSC7649.jpg _DSC7719.jpg _DSC7801.jpg
