Why advertise an engine that has not at the moment got a mainline ticket, :Banghead: or are RTC trying to sell more seats on the of chance that 60103 may have had a test run, and be passed and availible? add onto that that the engine may not even be able to leave ELR metals, if the road is being relayed

Because they are by the sounds of it a very clever business who need to and know of a way to sell more tickets. Heritage Railways do it all the time, advertising a loco come back when work is still being done on the loco. 9 times out of 10 the loco's overhaul is finished on time, but there's the other number of times when it's not.

I'd prefer to have information like this sooner than later. At least you know the plan if it all works out. And to be fair, they are saying that it will run, 'depending' on completion of tests.

Since FS is going to Carnforth on Wednesday for test run possibly Thursday there's always the option of her staying there.

But will she be able to leave the ELR? See my post 4400.

Would Ian mind sending it by road? Surely there isn't another option.

As mentioned elsewhere there were reports that she was moving to Heywood this evening.

There is no way the ELR would trap FS! Public hangings from signal posts would be called for.

Ah, problem solved. Any idea why she is being towed to Carnforth and not going LE?

Could lack of paperwork for NR running be the issue?

Perhaps they are moving her before she is trapped and the 47 might be on the rear as back up who knows .

Does being towed mean a light test run remains necessary prior to loaded?

Edit: just noticed post above speculating that diesel itself may be towed, seems credible theory, there for back up.

The NRM have removed the first run out of king's cross from the booking page of their website. :( I've been checking for it every day for about a month now to see if I can book tickets. Does this mean it won't go on general sale?

May not be possible to do a full FTR exam without a pit at Heywood? So has to be towed?

At some point after the 6th of February (assuming it hauls the Cumbrian Mountain Express), Flying Scotsman is to be repainted into BR green as 60103, this is prior to the start of the NRM sponsored photography events to be held at the museum. The first dates sold out pretty quickly, and I see earlier dates have now been added. How long does it take to re-paint a steam locomotive, especially at this time of year, and where will the work be carried out?
