What sort of flexible steam pipes are used on locos such as a Fairley where the cylinders move independently of the frames?

Is it not a case of a flexible "ball and socket" type joint in the steam pipe rather than a flexible pipe itself?

That's what I was wondering but was not certain. Hoping someone that works with the types of loco in question could explain.

Didn't they try using copper pipe when the locos were first built? I believe that it work hardened very quickly!
