Took my grand son to the NRM on Tuesday. There is a North Staffs battery loco there that was built in 1911 and withdrawn in 1964 after operating in the Leek area. As it was in service until the mid 60's, did it ever carry a number please? I've looked in the 1959 ABC Combined, but not even a mention of it although many other oddities such as the ex Gateshead trams running between Grimsby and Cleethorpes were.

Moving on, anyone know it's internal condition please? Although not up to main line standards, would it be possible to (occasionally) operate it on the NRM's demonstration line?

Was NSR no.1, not allocated an LMS number - they considered it a departmental loco - and finally allocated the number BEL2 by BR.
