I can't see where anyone actually criticised the routing of the feed pipe. Or do GWR fans really lack a sense of humour? Certainly the ones I worked with at Bridgnorth had one.

I have drawings for the side tanks for the 4575 2-6-2 tanks and 72XX 2-8-2 tanks. There is vertical tube in each of the side tanks

Correct. We must remember that the 82XXX tanks were designed at Swindon.

On 82045 the water delivery pipes to the clack valves pass through the side tanks vertically. Each pipe is protected by a steel tube welded to the top and bottom of the tanks. The steam heat delivery pipe also passes through the tube in the RH tank,
