Ships have funnels, locomotives have chimneys! I don't think there is a magic bullet. Minimising risk will come from a combination of control measures, including - but not limited to: Spark arrestors in smokeboxes Proper maintenance of ashpans...

We had brief, but very heavy rainfall near Leicester on Sunday AM, about 40 minutes, then some drizzle later in the morning. Enough to keep the dust down on the 4x4 training area, but not much else.
